With the exhibition The Differend, a personal exhibition by the African American painter Odili Donald Odita, M77 Gallery celebrated its first two years since its opening. Born in Enugo, Nigeria, Odita lives and works in the United States, between Philadelphia and New York. His work draws on the experiences of African American abstract artists of the seventies and eighties and explores the dimensions of color as a result of the history of figurative art and landscape but also according to an ideal sense of socio-political reading. The exhibition presented a selection of works specially created for the exhibition. Among these, also a site-specific work: a large wall-painting (entitled “Duomo Duomo”) for which Odita is particularly known and appreciated – which covered entirely one of the walls of the Gallery.
