Museo MAN di Nuoro | Anna Marongiu

MAN Museo d'Arte della Provincia di Nuoro

8 November 2019 – 1 March 2020

ANNA MARONGIU

curated by Luigi Fassi

From Friday 8 November 2019 to Sunday 1 March 2020, Museo MAN di Nuoro presents the first museum retrospective of Anna Marongiu (Cagliari 1907 – Ostia 1941), curated by Luigi Fassi. The exhibition represents an important stage in MAN’s research on Sardinian and Italian twentieth century art.

The exhibition itinerary develops around three cycles of illustrations dedicated to masterpieces of literature created by Marongiu between 1926 and 1930: the complete series of the plates of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare (1930), the illustrations of I Promessi Sposi by Alessandro Manzoni (1926) and the plates of The Pickwick Circle by Charles Dickens (1929). The latter work, consisting of 262 plates made in ink and watercolor, forms the heart of the retrospective: on loan from the Charles Dickens Museum in London, it is today, ninety years after its creation, for the first time visible in a museum.

The exhibition is enriched by a short film about the artist, made by MAN and Film Commission Sardegna in collaboration with the Charles Dickens Museum under the direction of Gemma Lynch.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalog published by Marsilio Editore.
